A few small things take real load off your cooling bill before you touch the thermostat:
- ☐ Set ceiling fans to spin counter-clockwise (viewed from below) — that’s the summer direction that pushes air down.
- ☐ Close blinds and curtains on sun-facing windows before noon; west-facing glass is the worst offender by late afternoon.
- ☐ Check window and door seals — cool air leaking out is money leaking out.
- ☐ Fit or repair insect screens so you can actually open windows on mild evenings instead of running the AC.
- ☐ Keep vents clear of furniture and rugs.
- ☐ Shade the outdoor AC unit lightly if it bakes in direct sun, but leave the airflow around it open.
None of this replaces a serviced system, but together it can make a room feel several degrees cooler. If your screens, seals, or fans need attention first, CMG Bridge can work through the list — $125 covers the first hour, Staten Island only, Monday to Saturday.
